Over the past two years former NBA basketball star Yao Ming and various film crews have visited Kariega Game Reserve to meet rhino Thandi and put together a documentary to help end trade of illegal ivory and rhino horn. This documentary, Saving Africa’s Giants with Yao Ming, will premiere on Tuesday, November 18 at 10 PM ET/PT (US) and Friday, November 21 at 9PM (UK) on Animal Planet.

The second edition of Angie's Conservation Diary, a personal account of rhino conservationist and Kariega intern Angie Goody, includes an update on rhino Thandi, educating the Kariega Conservation Volunteers and enjoying a spectacular Eastern Cape safari with elephants.

The seasons have changed and we are now officially in spring! This means rain and warmer days. However, whatever the weather the conservation volunteers had an action-packed month on Kariega Game Reserve.

We are very pleased to announce the reintroduction of another elephant herd onto the reserve. A herd of 10 elephants, including the matriarch and several calves, were once again released into a region that has not seen elephant in over 100 years.
