Saving Africa’s Giants with Yao Ming Premiere on Animal Planet

Over the past two years former NBA basketball star Yao Ming and various film crews have visited Kariega Game Reserve to meet rhino Thandi and put together a documentary to help end trade of illegal ivory and rhino horn.

This documentary, Saving Africa’s Giants with Yao Ming, will premiere on Tuesday, November 18 at 10 PM ET/PT (US) and Friday, November 21 at 9PM (UK) on Animal Planet. This Animal Planet premiere follows the August CCTV broadcast of the Chinese version of the documentary, The End of the Wild.

The film highlights the urgency of the elephant and rhino poaching crises wreaking havoc throughout Africa and aims to persuade viewers to join wildlife conservation efforts around the world. Join us in spreading the word and encouraging as many people as possible to watch the film so they can learn about what is happening in Africa and do everything they can to end the poaching of these iconic species.

The documentary features the incident where three rhinos were poached at Kariega Game Reserve on 2 March 2012 and the incredible story of survival of the female white rhino, Thandi. Dr. Will Fowlds, the wildlife vet who cared for Themba (the bull who lost his life 24 days after the poaching) and Thandi is also featured. The film was co-produced by WildAid, Natural History New Zealand, and Animal Planet. It includes the work of conservation organisations such as Save the Elephants, Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Daphne Sheldrick and The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, Tusk Trust, Kenya Wildlife Service, and South African National Parks.

We are incredibly proud to be part of this documentary and fully supportive of its message to stop the illegal trade of rhino horn and ivory.

In conjunction with the film premiere, Ivory Free here.

Together, we can end the illegal trade and bring an end to the poaching.
