This short clip was uploaded by documentary filmmaker Rian van der Walt when he recently visited Kariega Game Reserve to shoot for 'Heroes of the Rhino War' - a project in collaboration with the Wilderness Foundation to tell the inspirational and at times heartbreaking stories of the unsung heroes in the war against poaching.

In celebration of National Birding Day today we would like to share some information on a rarely spotted bird that was recently photographed at Kariega Game Reserve by our headranger Jason Friend. The Barred Owlet is known for it's scattered and isolated populations, and their occurrence in the Eastern Cape is particularly intriguing.

Kariega Conservation Volunteers celebrated Children's Day this year by spending the day playing with the students from Farmerfield School. "We played all the games we could possibly think of from our childhood and had lots of fun and great laughs. What a Wonderful Wednesday!"

The following images were taken by Katarzyna Cetkowska on her 3 day safari at Kariega Game Reserve South Africa in October 2013. Although she claims to be an amateur photographer, we think these are some of the best landscape images of Kariega that we have seen!

This week's wonderful wildlife video was created by Andrew Aveley and features some great footage of Kariega and the Eastern Cape. Andrew comments: "Kariega Game Reserve is one of the most exciting places to be in the Eastern Cape to enjoy quality wildlife and photography. From landscapes, lions, birds, rhinos and the Bushmans River estuary you can enjoy."

We were recently pleased to assist a family on a specialised tour of South Africa's famous Garden Route. We were even more pleased to receive a such a great review from their stay that included Cape Town, Hermanus (whale-watching Mecca), Knysna & Plettenberg Bay and ending at Kariega Game Reserve.
