We are thrilled to announce that the Kariega Foundation Trust has officially joined 1% for the Planet as an environmental partner!
This partnership acts as a valuable endorsement of our work and strengthens our conservation through community efforts by giving more businesses the confidence to invest in our projects and contribute to the global environmental movement.

What is 1% for the Planet?
Founded in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies, 1% for the Planet is an accountability network for businesses committed to giving back. Their members have donated hundreds of millions of dollars to environmental organisations worldwide, funding initiatives that protect and restore our planet.

Conservation through Community
The Kariega Foundation is a Non-Profit Trust working in the Eastern Cape of South Africa at the convergence point of two, out of 36 global, biodiversity hotspots. The landscape we aim to protect and conserve is one of the most irreplaceable landscapes globally.
We aim to protect it forever by creating and implementing sustainable, replicable and scalable project models to promote and support:- Protection of biodiversity
- Protection of endangered species
- Habitat and wildlife conservation
- Community upliftment
Our philosophy of Conservation Through Community is at the heart of everything we do. It rests on the belief that we will only achieve sustainable protection of biodiverse landscapes when these landscapes deliver tangible benefits and opportunities to the communities that live in and around the protected area. This results in communities joining conservation efforts with a common will to preserve the protected area forever.
While this vision is at the heart of our mission, we cannot achieve it alone. We rely on generous support from incredible partners and donors. We like to build lasting and impactful relationships with our donors and partners and provide opportunities for them to connect with the projects they support. We are hopeful we will find additional and meaningful partnerships through 1% for the Planet.
