Children of all ages are welcome at Kariega Game Reserve Main Lodge and a midday programme is available on request from your ranger which includes exciting and educational activities such as guided trails, tracking, learning about survival skills and more.

"We stayed in Kariega Main lodge for 2 nights with our 2 children (12 & 15) and wow, what a ride….
Robin and Noami loved the children’s activities that Kariega offers in the time between game drives. They went on a hike close to the lodge and came across bones, tracks and droppings to identify. “Mom I’m a real ranger now’ said Naomi after she happily received her Junior Ranger certificate from our ranger Bongani. Robin was keener on the ‘target practice’ with the catty. It proved to be quite a challenge to ‘hit’ the tin’s hanging in the tree but he quickly got the hang of it.
The game drives were fabulous since, as Naomi rightfully noted, ‘all the animals brought their children too’ and she loved taking pictures of all the babies although the lion, elephant and funny enough Impala rather than the buffalo baby were her favorite.
The Main Lodge restaurant is very well suited for families with children, the food – although in buffet style - is very good and way too much. Sitting still is not my kids strong point so what a pleasure that there was a game area for them to escape to after meal times. There were coloring books, clay, and paint for the little ones, I saw some nature DVD’s but the winner was the table tennis where they teamed up with the other kids.
The pool at main lodge is beautiful and completely hidden in the bush. I wouldn’t have minded at all to spend a little more here however as it was we hardly had any time to spend in our massive chalet with 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and patio with a stunning view.
The whole experience is one of those that we’ll be talking about for many years to come!"
