Nothing says African Safari more clearly than the evocative call of the African fish eagle. These majestic birds can be seen perched in the treetops along the banks of both the Kariega and Bushman’s rivers in Kariega Game Reserve in the Eastern Cape.

This week's photo of the week was taken by Kariega ranger and skilled photographer Jacques Matthysen, also known as Matt. The photograph captures the magnificent iridescent purple and blue of the African pygmy kingfisher (Ispidina picta).

Our photo of the week is a honey badger (Mellivora capensis), also known as the ratel in Afrikaans. Despite its name, it looks more like a weasel than any other badger.
